Kirkland is a member of Gateway Church. The multi-purpose centre is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Kirkland earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology from the University of California and completed the Health and Wellness program at UCLA. Last year, Mr. Kirkland also served as a member of a Charter Review Board tasked with a comprehensive review of the city charter for Cedar Park.Kirkland has volunteered at Cox Elementary, contributed to the Leander Excellence in Education Foundation (LEEF) and most recently served as President of the Forest Oaks HOA for three years.
