'Very Good' : Not for a dog or human that is out of shape!We visited the beach with our golden retriever last weekend and it was great. (registerFormPasswordLength >= 12)
Forget it... go stay inside your RV and go elsewhere... this is an "Active" approach to an incredibly great stretch of beach on Lake Michigan that a truly active dog deserves!Ventured to Grand Mere in late March in search of a dog friendly beach and was happy to have found this one! Our dog had so much fun running up and down the dunes and splashing in the water. When we left from the beach around noon, the sand was already burning our feet.

You get what you pay for- free = 0 beach for us and two dogsWe loved this hike!
There also were biting flies (as can be expected on the lake), but they left us alone in the water. The hike to the beach is long and moderately challenging. 'Fair' : The second dune isn't that bad. The water is clear. It's a beautiful, clean beach for you and your dog, and if you're lucky like we were, you might have the place all to yourselves.None of the trails are marked and took the one clearly off from the parking lot- it had signs warning about ticks and such- it lead to a pavilion that was under water and then the trail went on to find the trail was under water- it was late by the time got back to the parking lot and saw a second trail entrance with no signs again- gave up!

Grand Mere State Park is an undeveloped area, with sand dunes and inland lakes. Luckily our dog had booties or I'm certain he would have gotten blisters. To resend the verification email, We were looking for for a hiking experience and it came up short. The trek across the dunes is long and the dune facing the beach is very large.It was very hot today and the sand hurt our pup’s feet. So if you go be prepared for a workout!We stopped at this beach on a road trip through Michigan. Lots of room for our dog to run on the beach and through the water undisturbed. passwordStrength__meter--1' :

I will be checking before I head back up here again.It was an adventure finding this place but this beach is really a hidden gem.
? ' You will have to hike a ways to get to the beach but it is worth the hike. We had no problem finding the tail. Like a lot of Lake Michigan beaches, there isn't a whole lot of beach because the water is high (maybe 10 feet between the dunes and the water), but the water is pretty shallow and great for swimming. The dunes are beautiful but the trails are not marked so we had no idea where we were headed. Our little dog loved swimming and the running in the sand and making new friends!Great place, a bit of a hike through woods, climbing 2 steep sand dunes to get to the beach can be challenging,bring only what you need, some sort of umbrella or shade is good as there is no shade,no bags or cans to put your pups waste in on the beach or restrooms. For the safety of our dog, we cut our losses and returned to the car. The hike to the beach isn't long (my GPS said .7 miles from the parking lot), but when we went (June 28th, 2020), there was definitely mud on the path (though it had rained pretty heavy a few days before). {{#unverified}}
Three inland lakes lie behind the dunes in the undeveloped natural area.Pretty empty in the morning (compared to other dog-friendly beaches) Nice open beach with plenty of room to stake your own space.
Our dog had a blast! The beach is very clean, good sand, and clean water. (registerFormPasswordLength >= 16)
