I think I got to the emperor's pre-funeral party (about an hour in) before I began tiring of the film, it was just too much to take in and not hardly as interesting as I had thought, also the morals of the film where a bit troubling, now I am no prude but you only have to look at the lecherous cover art to see what I'm talking about. The use of locations and color are not only unparalleled for the time, but they hold their own against some of the more artistic projects created today with modern technology. Satyricon is a slow, bleak and slightly disturbing look at depraved ancient Rome, as two young men fight for the attention of a young slave boy, they are involved in a series of bizarre, erotic and non-linear escapades. Don't get me wrong, the film is not that graphic, but there is an unsettling air that runs through it. Examples of this are when they are on a large set that is intended to masquerade as the outdoors, with a matte painting in the background.

At times there will be controversy that needs to be addressed, like with On the other hand, sometimes the clarity of the transfer reveals the façade.

On their way to the Baths, the structure of the set is more visible and it looks artificial. It was the longest-running punk venue in the western United States, and has been referred to by some journalists and historians as the "CBGB of the West Coast."
