I happen to like the sound of the name Ay-veen better but it annoys me that it's spelled wrong.Oliwia is popular in Ireland right now because of the high amount of Polish women having babies here hence the name popularity, Oliwia is Polish but pronounced Olivia.
The fada is a right-slanting line placed over a vowel (as in the í in síneadh, above).
It seems clear enough to me and I have no argument at all about it.
on recommendation of the State Statistician has decided to reverse the practise of not recognising the sineadh fada in the birth data of newborn children. According to the pronunciation, there’s no reason to have a fada anywhere in this name. It seems in the early days when the civil servants were using a gaelic font or script they got it right but for the year 1952 on the centenary of the death of Thomas Moore they printed Eire and on other years. The letters DON'T make that sound and makes me so sad to see it/hear it that way Oliwia is more Polish writing you pronounce it like Olivia as "w" sounds like "v"CaramelFreddo, in Irish 'aoibh' phonetically always sounds like 'eve' and 'eann' or 'inn' doesn't make the 'een' sound either - you need an 'í' for that but nowadays everyone seems to pronounce the name as Ay-veen. And we all survived.No, she was straight out of college, a brilliant teacher who had a lot of other irons in fires in Irish language and music circles. I remember learning it off and what a tongue twister it was.
