So I was looking for rentals in the Zaferia area in Long Beach and just wanted to know anyone's experience. My old neighbor used to park his motorcycle on the street and that was stolen. The traffic circle is a nice area so there are nice areas to walk to and hang out, it's just some areas are more old or rundown than others.Parking can be lame if you don't have a spot and/or have multiple cars. I'd never known how huge it was until I looked it up just now - being literally right on the borderline of that zipcode with the much nicer 90802. I've never personally encountered any gang activity, never been mugged or messed with, and a lot of the people in the area I've talked to are nice. I'll address the negatives first.I've never felt unsafe here. I wouldn't leave my car door unlocked or live on the first floor around here, but I'm not afraid to walk down to Alex's or Bar Ya Sabes at night alone.Anything west of Ximeno and Anaheim is sketch. I'm used to people handle checking & living in sketchy neighborhoods (I've live in San Pedro, I've experienced both the "good" and terrible parts) so handle checking isn't a big deal to me as long as it doesn't typically lead to a break-in.I guess parking is my biggest concern, especially when I come home late. We have pets and there are close vets and pet stores. I know a lot of these things are shut down now, but we also live here because it's 3 miles to csulb where my girl works.A lot of people are going to hit you with the negatives like "it's sketchy because of X," but I've only been in lb for 6 years (from San Diego) and I've been living in this same apartment because it was hella cheap when we moved in and it's still crazy cheap for a two bedroom with a parking spot.Sorry for the long post, but I think details are necessary when living in places like LB, it's a lot like LA in the sense that a few block radius can be very nice and then you walk another block and you're in a hood area.Overall, I do like zaferia.
Of course, it's extra weird, being that when I moved to LB, I used to be right on the opposite borderline zip code, 90815. A few blocks north is signal hill. I was looking around the Anaheim & Bennett area. !I live in Zaferia off Obispo in the middle, kinda closer to PCH and Obispo.
I feel like my street is a nice border of where it starts to get nice.
How is the parking?South of Anahiem, east of Redondo is the best, but there are some ectio s that are better than others. The only places that don't are like Belmont Shore, Seal Beach, you know the nice areas, but also rent there is really insane there, parking is nonexistent there and most units have no assigned parking or you have to pay extra on top of rent. Crime was low, but parking is atrocious. That's about common in most Long Beach areas. We are known for our Queen Mary, Aquarium of the Pacific, and hosting of the Grand Prix. You're pretty much close to everything you'd need. Use filters to narrow your search by price, square feet, beds, and baths to find homes that fit your criteria.
