It took me quite a while to get healthy and redouble my attempts and efforts to get cast (that would be a story for another post).Since that first time, I have attended 5 additional open casting calls, from Miami, to Pennsylvania, to Massachusetts. There's no way to do a quick search.

I did not spend the night this time as I had just got home from my 26 bookings in six days speaking trip.There are always a few moments that really stand out and this time it was the two ladies who went to the casino to drink and did not get back when they had been told to and gave the producers a hard time. Camping overnight to be at the front of the line was commonplace. Go for it.

Survivor Series Casting Calls. After waiting six hours for my turn, my group was told that we would have thirty seconds to give our pitch to the cameras! Traditionally, Survivor casts their upcoming seasons of the show in a standard format year in and out.
This year added Canadians to the casting pool, who had their own video submission rules and no open casting calls. Never did. I would have given my eye teeth or even maybe even my first born (sorry Tonya) to have met a Survivor to talk to. The taped Open Calls are then mailed to Survivor Casting to be viewed during the casting season. The first 150 people are guaranteed an interview. It's also great for people who are natural talkers and story tellers who can engage people fairly easily off the top of their heads. Open Calls are great for people who are not tech savvy and can't edit a video together to apply online. There are also the “overnighters” who set up for sometimes days.Survivor Steve is always first in line and is there for 2 nights and 3 days. It's really your call, as even there are reps FROM CBS at open casting calls, so you'll be seen directly by them, which is a plus.There are definitely advantages to open calls. The calls are planned in advance so you know they're 100% in the zone for it, whereas if you send in a tape you don't really know what mood the person is gonna be in when they watch it.If I was a casting director, I would definitely fight harder for people I met at an open call. Big shout out to my favorite Survivor friend. Everyone was even more excited when two casting people came to chat too.
