We never gets to hear why Trishna doesn't leave from sexual abuse later or at least tell him that she is felling like a sexual victim but sadly we never get to hear her point of view.
Jay develops feelings for Trishna, expressing them through special treatment and gifts. In Winterbottom's film, Trishna's inevitable pregnancy is terminated under duress from her father, who is, to put it mildly, old fashioned. ['Trishna'] owes something to Hardy, a bit to Bollywood and too much to Mr. Winterbottom’s unfortunate decisions.

Their relationship has settled into an arrangement when Jay suddenly has to leave for England, where his father is in hospital after having a stroke. They're lonely Londoners. After an accident destroys her father's Jeep and leaves her family without the means to support themselves, Trishna, approached with an offer of employment from Jay, accepts and begins her work beneath him.
