The School didn't look like a university but more like a high school, even the teachers' offices didn't look like a university's layout. Many reviewers complain how it leads nowhere, but I think that's the whole point!

This movie -as most of movies based on books or novels- tends to have a lot of philosophy between its layers, and the main questions this movie emphasised on are, What is the truth ? There was mystery and a did he/didn't he vibe going on.

He teaches philosophy at the university which also qualifies him as a wisdom bearer. 25 out of 29 found this helpful. A college student Joyce Bonner (Odeya Rush) goes missing and police detective Malloy (Pierce Brosnan) keys in on Philosophy professor Evan Birch (Guy Pearce) who is known to have affairs with students. The movie kept me in constant questioning about who the killer was. The characters were written as muddled messes.

There is no shocker at the end, it is extremely predictable, and it exploits its viewers. Was this review helpful? In my opinion the writing was really good, and they tried to make it suspenseful but it wasn't very, in my opinion. A thriller with no thrills. His wife Ellen (Minnie Driver) prefers the dictionary definition especially as Evan has form for having having affairs with his students.

How reliable is any single person's account, of anything! There is girl missing in town, a teen, studying at the same university Evan is associated with, and guess what? The ending just didn't make sense. Was this review helpful? With Travis Mitchell, Booth Daniels, John Mariano. In addition, what is guilt really? Really great idea, but extremely poore execution. All in all, I liked it! Then the role he played just looked like a regular Joe, not possible to write a thousand paged philosophic book. Pierce Brosnan looked more like a retiree instead of a senior detective. It turns out, to make the viewer question his guilt, there was supposed to have been a similar incident years before resulting in he and his family moving to another teaching position.
