So a few weeks ago I finally got something I have wanted for years - a greenhouse (8 ft by 10ft).

Nepenthes are far more tolerant of water impurities than other carnivorous plants. I have about 60 cp's and most recently I brought 12 sarracenia's and 10 nepenthes. It catches plenty of introduced European wasps as well as native paper wasps, but anything else it gets seems to be an accident.

The Nepenthes, however, haven't been quite so sucesfull. In the weeks I have had them, Ive seen just one fly walking on them, though one did catch a bee the other day.

Looking into their traps though they dont seem to have caught anything, so my question to those who know about these sorts of things, is the nepenthes not exactly known for their effectiveness of catching flies?Lucky you, with your greenhouse!

I can't really understand why it doesn't catch flies, native bees or honeybees (yes, we still have honeybees here), because there are plenty of them available.I actually don't grow sarracenias anymore but I used to grow quite a few outside, and S. flava in particular did incredibly well with pretty much any insect that's attracted to nectar, and the pitchers used to get almost entirely filled.
