(WJZ) — The shooting range at Elk Neck State Forest reopened Thursday after Maryland Gov. Elk Neck is great! Many incredible tales unfolded right here under the watchful beacon of the Turkey Point Lighthouse: stories of heroism, daunting challenges, and even tragedy. Shooting ranges for bow, hand gun, shotgun and rifle are also available to the public.

Elk Neck State Park is located in Cecil County on a peninsula, formed by the Chesapeake Bay on the west and the Elk River on the east. This beach is located at the Elk River in Elk Neck State Park. You can also take advantage of the canoe and kayak launch area, just north of the swim area.You will also find over 25 picnic tables and some grills, a playground, restroom with showers, and a seasonal convenience store offering cold drinks, snacks, ice cream, sunscreen, souvenirs, and beach supplies.No alcohol. There are also campgrounds and hiking trails throughout the park and a lighthouse to explore. Elk Neck State Forest is an approximate 3,571 acre parcel of land situated in central Cecil County consisting of four separate tracts of land. While you are there, have a picnic with your family and friends as you relax in the shade and enjoy the Bay’s spectacular views. Bay Venture Outfitters is open!

While some of the trails remain closed, the beach is open. Due to COVID19 we reservations are required. We lucked into a site right on the edge of a bluff overlooking the Bay, about 80 feet below. It take about an hour to get there from my home just south of Philadelphia, right now 95. Off season, the campgrounds empty out, and troops from other states are welcome to use the facilities for a very small fee. Call 800-918-2870 to purchase a license.Pets are ONLY allowed in the following designated areas of Elk Neck State Park:Campground: The camping loops located along Stoney Point Rd. Follow the trail signs out to the lighthouse, which is 0.8 miles from the parking lot.Another journey’s destination is our sandy beach where you can swim in the Bay and get away from the summer heat. Elk Neck State Park is located at 4395 Turkey Point Road, North East, MD. This is a small cove beach that can be accessed via a path; this is not the main park beach. Visit the convenience store at Rogue’s Harbor Boating Facility to purchase basic supplies and try your hand at crabbing.Free fishing days: the first two Saturdays in June and July 4th.Please reference the current regulations for seasons, size, catch, and possession limits.

You must take all of your trash home with you when you leave.Follow Route 272 South, 1/4 mile past Park Headquarters.
